Buy Local at Leicestershire County Show

Lyncroft cakesLEICESTERSHIRE COUNTY SHOW  2nd & 3rd May 2010

LOCAL FOOD A PRIORITY AT THIS YEAR’S LEICESTERSHIRE COUNTY SHOW

The 2010 County Show will highlight Leicestershire’s local food and drink in its own select farmers’ market to tempt visitors to buy and try the County’s finest produce.

Leicestershire Food Links is working with Leicestershire producers to make this year’s NEW local food area a must for all visitors - not only food and drink to be proud of but a range of activities and entertainments to keep everyone satisfied and coming back for more.  Celebrity Chefs, Beer and Wine tasting and a Children's Cookery School are just a few of the added extras this year.

Graham Smith the new organiser and LFL are determined to make this a key part of the County Show which will grow and develop over the coming years "Our local food and drink producers are a crucial part of the event and we are very glad that the County Show has given us the opportunity of showcasing the wonderful produce we have in Leicestershire." said Sallie Hooper.

Happy 10th Birthday to Hinckley Farmers Market
Happy 10th

Congratulations to Hinckley Farmers Market which is now officially in its second decade. Producers, staff, volunteers and customers celebrated the market's 10th Birthday in style with a visit from the Mayor and Mayoress of Hinckley and Bosworth.

Cllr and Mrs Nichols watched children from Higham on the Hill Primary School perform a selection of carols before everyone tucked into drinks and a piece of birthday cake to remember the event. LFL were extremely pleased that Cllr Keith Nichols attended as he had been instrumental in the setting up of the original market in July 1999.

Liz,  Hinckley's Market Manager is pictured here with Cllr Nichols and Sherillee the events officer from Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.

The Green ManMELTON MOWBRAY COUNTRY FAIR 2010

After the successful return of Melton Mowbray's Country Fair last year, we are eager to start to organise next year's show
and would like to hear from anyone who would like to be involved in 2010 whether as an exhibitor or a volunteer.

The date will be Sunday 27th June 2010.

We have spaces for local entertainers, rural craftworkers (especially demonstrating) handmade crafts, local food producers and local businesses.
We would also like to introduce other attractions which we did not have an opportunity to book last year.

So we would be very interested to hear from local organisations and groups who would like to help us with new ideas.
In particular local heritage societies   -    plant societies   -   youth groups and schools    -   smallholders    -   food producers    -   environmental groups   -   folk groups   -   art groups   -   charities

Also we would like to develop the vintage and veteran vehicles section. Any local owners who would like to join us for the day would be very welcome.
If you think you have something that would be suitable for the Country Fair please give Sallie Hooper a call on 01509 881386 to discuss further.
