Get Baking for Lammas Print

Local Loaves for Lammas

The Real Bread Campaign are asking whether you will bake a local loaf for Lammas (Old English - loaf mass) on the 1st August 2010 the traditional day to enjoy this ancient harvest festival celebration. The highlight of the festival is the sharing of freshly baked bread made from the first grains of the harvest.

Melton BIG BAKE 2010

breadThe Melton BIG BAKE at this year's Country Fair was hailed as a great success! Not only were there 88 entries in total with winners in most classes but a grand selection of breads, live bread demonstrations, baking equipment, DIY calzone making and the most amazing smell of freshly baking bread throughout the day. Thank you to everyone involved. Results here or see Ellie's winning recipe for "White Chocolate and Raspberry Muffins"

Both the overall winners were presented with a hand turned breadboards crafted by Martin Pidgen and engraved by Bob Neill along with a collectable Melton BIG BAKE baker's hat presented by Laurent.Valbret president of the London and South Eastern Regions (LASER) of the association of Master Bakers.

Many thanks to one of our forum members, Matt B who has prompted us to hold a Veg Swop stall at our next Kibworth Beauchamp Market with a special Ugly Veg Competition for all. Can you beat last year's winning parrot entry! 

So if your courgettes are nearly marrows but your beans can't be seen - bring your surplus down to the Veg Swop stall and enjoy a cup of tea and compare notes with other ardent gardeners and pick up some healthy fresh local produce at the same time.  This could be the start of something big!!

Leicestershire Food Fortnight is back!

belgrave hall food fairsmallThe Leicestershire Food Fortnight 2010 will be running from Saturday 18th September until Saturday 3rd October 2010 and LFL is currently compiling a new brochure for 2010 to publicise local produce in Leicestershire .

This year's theme is "Taste Something Different - Taste Leicestershire!"

We are looking for producers, restaurants, cafes, pubs, schools, colleges. charities, community groups and individuals who would be interested in "getting involved" by organising food events to celebrate all that's good to eat and drink in Leicestershire. All events will be added to the Leicestershire Food Fortnight 2010 brochure as well as businesses using local produce.
