Calling all Smallholders
I am on a mission to find smallholders in Leicestershire and Rutland who would be interested in forming a Leicestershire & Rutland Smallholders Association which would provide a voice for smallholders in the two counties and would act as a platform from which it would be possible to arrange relevant training days, bulk buying/service provision schemes and provide an information sharing network as well as strengthening lobbying power for smallholders.
Are you interested or or do you know someone who might be? I would be very interested to hear from you. Please contact me Sallie Hooper on 01509 881386
I have been prompted to go ahead in light of the new Small Farm Forum being set up by Tim Tyne with the support of the Smallholder magazine. Tim agree that there will be a vast remit - "We need to cater for a vast range of interests from postage stamp sized allotments to a couple of hundred acres of rock-strewn mountain side" The Small Farm Forum would cater for both "hobby" smallholders to more commercially minded smallholders to provide a voice at National level, respond to DEFRA consultations and keep up to date with rules and regulations. Interested groups so far include the Yorkshire Smallholders, Suffolk Smallholders Society, Lincolnshire Smallholding and Sufficiency Club, the Poultry Club and the Association of Scottish Smallholders to name but a few. If you would like to contact Tim direct his email is
